Production Meeting 4

28/11/13
Sophie, Curtis and Josh are present.
We discussed about what went wrong when it came to filming, it seemed who went out filming at a bad time as most of the class rooms doors were not available, limiting our chances of getting a door with an empty room.
We then discussed of what struggles we faced when using After Effects, two of our members (Sophie and Josh) had trouble with the software as they were not used to it, and so the remaining person(Curtis) who succeeded his task, is willing to help the other two get used to the software.
Moreover, we had a discussion about what we need to learn, Curtis thought we would need to go through the basics of After Effects again so Sophie and Josh are used to the software and won't have any trouble making visual effects from scratch. And to also learn to plan ahead when shooting, like the outcome and when filming how would it effect the editing.
Finally, we discussed about the assets (Make up, costumes and props) All the characters are going to be wearing usual clothing, make up is not going to be used. The props we are going to be using are every day school like objects including a planner and a time table

Visual Effect Research

1: Door opening by telekinesis when the student waves her hand.

This can be achieved by recording the door being opened separately from the POV of the student then using the After Effects tutorial above to help with the effects.

2: Students using powers outside.

Outside there are students using powers, One of them is going to be Teleporting around the field

and the other could be Laser Beams shooting from their hands and them having laser fights.

We could use this tutorial to help, but change it from the eyes to the hands.

Group Meeting 19/11/13

Everyone Is Present.

Together we created the script by combining all 3 of our separate scripts to make them into one.

We then each had a copy of the new script which we broke apart and separated into the scenes and shot types which we thought suited best.

Once we had done that, we collaborated and listened to each-others shot idea's to see which of them we like.

We have decided to use my Scene 1 and 2 where it's a high angle shot of Hannah walking while the Narrator is talking and the Forward Tracking Shot when she is opening/reading the letter, And also the Side angle shot of Hannah walking to the reception in Scene 2.

Also we have decided to use Josh's Scene 3 when there is a Low and High angle shots when Hannah bumps into the other student.

Finally we have decided to use Sophie's Scene 4 of when Hannah watches the students as she sits and watches them use their powers.

180° Rule Diagram

Curtis G - 180 Diagram

The 180° a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character. An imaginary line connects the characters and by keeping the camera on one side of this line for every shot in the scene, the first character will always be frame right of the second character, who is then always frame left of the first. If the camera passes over the axis, it is called crossing the line. By crossing the line it creates confusion for the viewer because it makes it seem as-if the character has swapped places.

we have also started writing a new script using the combined ideas from all of them. So we are going to have the characters from Sophies script, and use the original ideas from Josh and the introduction from mine so we each have our own parts that we created for the group.

X-Men Sound Analysis

Music: 0:01-1:32

Dialogue: 0:04-0:05 / 1:05-1:07 / 1:11-1:13 / 1:14-1:15 / 1:16-1:17 / 1:28-1:29

Voice Over: 0:08-0:12 / 0:15-0:18 / 0:19-0:22 / 0:23-0:30 / 0:32-0:55 / 1:18-1:28

Sound Effects: 0:05-0:15 / 0:22-0:28 / 0:48-0:51 / 0:58-1:03

In this clip we never see voice overs and dialogue mix because this would great a load of noise that the audience wouldn't understand. If you combine the two we wouldn't get the information from the movie to make sense of what's going on.

We get this constant sound of music which starts at the beginning of the clip and ends at the end of the clip, This creates a flow within the clip which cancels any dead scenes with no sounds e.g. shot of the school. Throughout the clip the music changes to match what's in the scene for example you would use quick music to show an action scene or you would use slow music to show a romantic scene.

Sound effects are the things which make the movie more realistic for example the ice coming from his hand wouldn't make sense without the sound effect . Usually sound is a lot quieter in real life but in movies they increase the volume so that you can hear it and give the movie a more realistic feel

Sound Effect Analysis - Drive

The first thing you hear is the music, this  makes you feel tense as the beat of it its quite loud and its at the same pace as a heartbeat.
It makes you feel tense as you don't know what is going to happen and if they are going to get caught. The way that it has been set, it makes you think that the worse is going to happen after you over-think the situation in your head and you predict what might happen, this is how they build the tension and make you nervous and worry about the situation.

The Ticking Watch -  The watch implies that the time is running out. The watch sounds louder than it would in real life, they have done this to make you feel nervous as it is loud and also rather quick as if time is going quicker than normal. It also makes you worry even more when think that the other guy might not make it and the getaway driver will leave without him.

Basketball Game - Its worrying and mysterious that he is listening to a basketball while he is commiting a crime. Its worrying because he should be concentrating on what the robber getting back rather than listening to it. It is mysterious because you don't know why he is listening it in the first place.

Police Radio - The fact that he is listening to the police radio scanner makes sense as he needs to know what they are up to and how much longer he has before he leaves. This builds up tension as they state their positions and how close they are to the crime scene. For example the woman says that they were 1 minute way from the crime scene and the second robber isn't even in the car yet,  it gets you worrying.

Environment -  In the background you can hear the traffic and also the police siren which means they are close to the crime scene and they will be there soon.

These sound effects blend together well, becaue the first thinga you hear are the music, police siren and the basketball game all together. Then the music starts to fade and you hear the gate opening overtaking the music. The tickling clock goes over everything then fades out slightly letting the basketball game and the police radio scanner go over all the other sounds while the music is still on quitely the background. The police siren comes in louder again and so does the car. The music starts to get louder as there's no sound in the background apart from the dialogue, ticking clock and the siren alarm.
Then the ticking clock stops and the sound of the car and the police radio scanner overtakes everything else, yet the music is still on the background

Misfits Dialogue Analysis

UNIT 50 - AO1 Understand how sound elements are used in media products.

DIALOGUE:

1) What is the purpose of the dialogue used?

The purpose of which the dialogue is used is to establish the different personalities of the characters across to us by showing us what their like via their body language and speech.
Also the purpose of the clip is to give us the story behind who they are and possibly a story of narrative.
It sets the the scene and gives us an insight of the genre, like the period of which they're in because of the technology and the fact that each of them are on probation.
I think there's also the purpose of entertainment, because from the opening clip we're taken through humor and given the terms of amusement and the establishment of comedy.

Character Analysis:

Nathan

Always has a mischievous smirk or his face, as seen in the image aside taken from the watched clip. Has a lot of sarcasm. Cocky. Playful. Polite. Condescending. Natural. Open minded. Snarky jerk ass.

Volume and accent:
He has a strong southern Irish accent which makes him sound rhythmic as it's soft, a very clear volume of speech but always tries to dominate the banter of conversation and be the center of attention. He's a very clear spoken guy. He talks in full grammar unlike some of the others we see in the opening clip.

Vocabulary
Vulgar and pushes the boundaries by interfering with everything gets said by making comments to other people about what they say and questions each and everyone little this that gets said. He doesn't explicit language showing he is witty and has a certain idea of intelligence.

Overall I think it tells us that Nathan is a very easy going gentle person with an cocky personality who has the idea of dominating other people and likes to be the center of attention. I think he is also insecure because he acts like a child and someone he's not due to the sarcasm and annoyingness he generates and gives across to us.

  Alisha:

Young careless girl who really doesn't care about her attitude towards things. from the start we can see that she likes to show off her body by the way in which she sort of boosts herself up when she's changing into her probation clothing.

Shes dainty, overlooked, childish, playful, flirty, and a show off and irresponsible.

Volume and accent:  Her accent comes across as cockney because she doesn't seem to have anything else revolved around it besides the fact that she seem quiet and innocent but there's an edge to the way in which she says things to people, like a sort of out there Londoner. Her volume fits her really well as a person because she's not loud and she's not vibrant for example when she's speaking on the phone to her friend she's really casual and laid-back a dainty about what shes doing, but whilst shes in the background of other people you cannot really here her over Nathan and Gary fighting together.

Vocabulary: she has a very poor sense of vocab to the fact which makes her seem slightly chavy but it suits her really well, due to the fact that it fits in with who she is and her background of being a possible player with the guys, and a major flirt with others, and a joker also but it helps her stand her guard and not look so small.

I think that Alisha has made herself look really silly and pathetic with the way she acts in this, because she comes across as being a really sweet and innocent person being thrown into the possibly category of a slag, and someone who sleeps around and finds everything on earth attractive. She's a girl who uses her body emotions to draw things to her and to make friends with her attitude of being a typical flirt. But also very strong.

Point Break Sound Mix Write-Up

Exporting

File > Export > Media

Check "Match Sequence Settings"

Change "Output Name" to your own directory

 Click "Export"

I am pleased with the final piece.
The sound effects fit quite well with the video.
I used all my own sound effects which i acquired from SoundDogs.
The bit i am most pleased with is the part where he runs into the house, i believe all the sounds are great in that section and it's the bit i put most of the time in.
